There’s a Pickle Juice Sports Drink

Yep. Athletes aren’t just chugging Gatorade—some are reaching for jars of brine:

  • Why? Because pickle juice has electrolytes (especially sodium and potassium) that help:

    • Prevent muscle cramps

    • Rehydrate quickly

    • Replenish salt lost through sweat

  • Does it work? Research is mixed, but many athletes swear by it. Some small studies show that muscle cramps stop faster after drinking pickle juice compared to water.

I had a friend growing up who was the Oregon high school state champion in Tennis and had bad cramping issues so his dad would bring jars of brine for him to chug while playing. He’d rip 3 or 4 of those bad boys a match. Wild.
